GAME TYPES

Regular Game:
Each quarter of the game is to be defined as 2 total ball posessions for either team.

Timed Game:
Each half is to be played over 1 hour.  We recommend a 20-second play-clock be used. Each player is allotted three time-outs per half.  (Timeouts should last a maximum of three minutes).  A 'Delay of Game' penalty of five (5) yards will be called on any player taking longer than 20 seconds to make their next move.  This penalty (or penalties) will be added (subtracted) to the end of the play.

FAQ

When can a direct snap be made?
A direct snap can take place by sending the ball directly to a player other than the quarterback.  The quarterback (king) must be in the shotgun formation and the receiving piece MUST be directly to the left or right of the quarterback for a legal 'direct snap' to take place.

Can a tight end hop over other player pieces?
Yes, the movement ability of this piece is exactly that of a knight piece in chess.

How does a player complete a pass?
Passing piece must have at least one open receiver (horizontally, vertically or diagonally).  The player can then call “pass” as his turn.  At this point, the ball is “in the air”.  After defending player makes his move, offensive player can then decide which receiver the ball was thrown to if more than one receiver was open.

What constitutes a successful interception?
The defender must move into the 'interception peg-hole' after a pass or move for a successful interception. The interception peg-hole is adjacent to the receiver, in a direct line with the passer (see passing diagram).

What constitutes an incomplete pass?
Once the ball is 'in the air', a defender must be able to move to a position that is to the left or right to the 'interception peg hole' with respect to the direction of the pass (see passing diagram).

When can a block be made?
Any player can be blocked as long as the rushing player is on the same side of the line of scrimmage as the player being blocked.  A blocked player is removed until the termination of the play.

Can a player block a player on the other side of the line of scrimmage?
A player can only block a player on the other side of the line of scrimmage if both pieces are directly on the line.
